What we’re asked for most in Whitkirk
The jobs that come up again and again in Whitkirk, each with a written estimate before work starts.
- Consumer unit upgradesHouses built between the 1930s and 1970s may still have a fuse board without RCD protection, and replacing it adds the protection current regulations expect.
- Full house rewiresIf a 1930s or 1940s house here has not been rewired in decades, we test what is there first and estimate for renewing it only if the results call for it.
- Attic and extension wiringAdding a loft room or rear extension to a Whitkirk or Austhorpe house means new circuits, designed and certified before the plasterer arrives.

Electrical work in Whitkirk
Including Austhorpe, LS15.
The tower of St Mary’s Church is Whitkirk’s main landmark, standing in a tiny conservation area at the junction of Selby Road and Colton Road. The suburb around it sits four miles from Leeds city centre in LS15, between Crossgates to the north and Temple Newsam Park to the south. Beyond that historic core, suburban housing built between the 1930s and the 1970s makes up most of the area, on streets such as Kingsway and Knightsway whose names recall old routes to Temple Newsam House. Austhorpe, just to the east, is where the engineer John Smeaton was born, and he is buried in Whitkirk churchyard.
Four decades of building means four decades of wiring practice, so a 1930s semi and a 1970s house a few streets apart may need quite different work. In the older houses, wiring that has not been renewed in decades may call for a full rewire. In later ones the cables may be sound, and a consumer unit upgrade to add RCD protection may be all that is needed. Loft conversions and extensions need their own circuits, which we design and certify through our attic and extension wiring service.
