Electrical work in Burmantofts

Including Richmond Hill, LS9.

On the east edge of Leeds city centre, next to St James’s Hospital, the Victorian streets of Burmantofts were redeveloped after the war. By the mid-1960s most of the blocks of flats that stand today were complete, and several have since been refurbished. A small number of 19th-century houses survive near the old Burtons warehouse on Hudson Road. Richmond Hill lies east of the centre, between York Road, East End Park and Cross Green, with the Grade I listed St Saviour’s Church on its summit and the Saxton Gardens estate, redeveloped by Urban Splash as 410 homes with allotments and a large communal garden.

Electrical work in a flat divides at the front door. Everything inside, from the consumer unit to the last socket, is normally the responsibility of whoever owns the flat, while landings, stairwells and door entry systems belong to the building. For a leaseholder or buyer, an EICR of your own installation is the clearest starting point. Landlords letting flats or houses here have the five-yearly EICR to keep up, and since February 2026 parts of the Burmantofts and Richmond Hill ward also fall under selective licensing, with conditions on smoke and CO alarms. Our landlord electrical safety service covers the inspection, any remedial work and the paperwork.

Questions from Burmantofts

What people in Burmantofts ask us most. Not covered here? Ring and ask.

Do you work in the blocks of flats in Burmantofts?

Yes, for flat owners and private landlords, inside the flat itself. If you rent from Leeds City Council, report wiring faults to the council, because repairs are its responsibility. Wiring in shared corridors and stairwells belongs to the building owner, not to any one flat.

Do you cover Richmond Hill and the streets near St Saviour's Church?

Yes. Richmond Hill is part of the same LS9 patch, from Saxton Gardens and the Grade I listed St Saviour's Church on top of the hill across to York Road and East End Park. Get in touch to check your street.
