Electrician in Whinmoor, Leeds

Whinmoor, five miles north-east of the city centre, grew as a 1960s council estate beside Seacroft, and most of its homes are now privately owned.

Electrical work in Whinmoor

Leeds City Council bought Whinmoor from Tadcaster Rural District Council to extend its Seacroft housing, and in the early 1960s planned 5,000 homes here. The area lies about five miles north-east of the city centre in LS14, next to Swarcliffe and Seacroft, and most of those council homes are now privately owned. Newer housing has arrived alongside them: Strata homes off the A64 York Road, Redrow houses on the former Unilever car park near Coal Road and Whinmoor Fields, the northern part of the East Leeds Extension, served by the East Leeds Orbital Route that fully opened in 2022.

A house built in the 1960s and bought from the council years ago can have electrics from any decade since, depending on what each owner changed. That is why an EICR is the sensible first step after buying one: it shows what is original, what has been replaced and what is unsafe. If the report flags an old fuse board, a consumer unit upgrade brings in RCD protection. In the new houses the wiring is current, so the work tends to be additions, such as an EV charger, garden power or extra sockets in a spare room.

Completed the EICR and remedial work to a great standard, leaving the property safe and tidy. Would happily use again and recommend.

Martin was excellent. Carried out my EICR for my retail shop in a very professional manner. Really nice bloke to deal with. Many thanks.

Yes. We cover Whinmoor from the 1960s streets around Whinmoor Way to the new houses at Whinmoor Fields, part of the East Leeds Extension beside the East Leeds Orbital Route. Tell us the street and the job when you get in touch.

I have bought a former council house in Whinmoor. Where should I start with the electrics?

Start with an EICR. It records the age and condition of the wiring and fuse board, lists anything unsafe and separates urgent work from jobs that can wait, so you can plan a consumer unit upgrade or a rewire with a clear budget.
