Electrical work in Hunslet
Locomotives and traction engines were once built in Hunslet, on flat land beside the River Aire a mile south-east of Leeds city centre, in LS10. The Victorian spire of St Mary the Virgin, the tallest in Leeds, still stands over it. The housing has been rebuilt more than once. The Leek Street flats, begun in 1968, came down from 1983 and were replaced with low-rise council homes around the late 1980s, followed by private houses in the 1990s and 2000s. Riverside flats went up near Clarence Dock, and Crown Point Retail Park now fills the old railway goods yard.
So a job in Hunslet might be in a 1990s house, a flat above the river or an older terrace, and each needs different things. Homes wired before 2008 can have fuse boards without the RCD protection that is standard today, which a consumer unit upgrade adds. Landlords letting any of them need a current landlord electrical safety report, and in houses, mains-wired smoke alarms are worth fitting while we are there.

Questions from Hunslet
What people in Hunslet ask us most. Not covered here? Ring and ask.
Do you cover the riverside flats and the rest of LS10?
Yes. We cover the apartment blocks by the river, the houses around Hunslet Green and the Penny Hill Centre and the older streets towards Hunslet Moor. For a flat, tell us the block and floor when you get in touch.
Who deals with the electrics in a Hunslet flat, me or the building manager?
Inside the flat, from the consumer unit to the sockets and lights, the wiring is normally the owner's or landlord's responsibility. Communal lighting, door entry and fire alarm systems belong to the building's management. We work on the flat side and can help you work out what falls where.
