Electrician in Hyde Park, Leeds

Hyde Park, LS6, sits between the university and Headingley, packed with late Victorian and Edwardian back-to-back terraces, many of them let to students.

Electrical work in Hyde Park

Including Woodhouse and Blenheim, LS6.

Hyde Park sits in LS6 between the University of Leeds and Headingley, with Woodhouse Moor, one of the busiest parks in the city, on its university side. Most of the housing is late Victorian and Edwardian brick terracing, either back-to-back or facing wide streets with shared alleyways behind, plus a pocket of 1980s council housing between Hyde Park Road and Woodsley Road. Woodhouse, to the south-east, has similar red-brick back-to-backs and through terraces, while Blenheim takes in the streets around Blenheim Terrace and Blenheim Walk. Locals know the area for the Hyde Park Picture House and the Brudenell Social Club.

A large number of these houses are owned by private landlords who rent to students, and that drives most of the electrical work here. A Leeds back-to-back typically runs from a cellar up to an attic bedroom, so a shared house is best served by interlinked smoke alarms that reach every level, and every let needs a landlord EICR. In houses this old the wiring can have been extended piecemeal by a string of owners, and a consumer unit upgrade is often what testing points to when it finds a board with no RCD protection.

Parking on the tightly packed terrace streets can be scarce. If you are a landlord booking a test, tell us how we get in and whether your tenants need notice, and we will arrange the visit around them.

Came to repair the toilet light at Orion cafe Hyde Park corner. He had to stay late to make the wiring safe so we could open the next day. He did a good job and I would recommend him.

Questions from Hyde Park

What people in Hyde Park ask us most. Not covered here? Ring and ask.

Do you cover LS6 and the streets around Woodhouse Moor?

Yes. The terraces off Hyde Park Road and Royal Park Road, plus Woodhouse and Blenheim towards the university, sit inside our normal patch. On a boundary street? Get in touch and we will confirm before you book.

What electrical work do shared student houses in Hyde Park usually need?

Most need a landlord EICR at least every five years, a working smoke alarm on every storey and, where the old fuse board fails testing, a new consumer unit. Our landlord electrical safety page covers the legal side in full.
