The A660 Otley Road runs straight through Lawnswood, four miles north of the city centre, and the area is bordered by West Park, Adel, Ireland Wood and Holt Park. Most homes are large private detached and semi-detached suburban houses, alongside a number of 1930s flats designed to look like pairs of semis. Lawnswood Cemetery, opened in 1875, and Lawnswood School on the Outer Ring Road are the landmarks most people know. West Park, to the south, grew as an Edwardian suburb of large houses on tree-lined streets, and some of the Victorian buildings near Otley Road have been split into flats. Moor Grange is a 1950s estate of red-brick semis, terraces and three tower blocks, built on former farmland and now mostly in private hands.
The older private houses here may still have original or only partly updated wiring, which makes a full rewire worth discussing before a big renovation. Where there is space off the road, an EV charger is a practical addition once we have checked the supply can carry it. On Moor Grange, a consumer unit upgrade brings RCD protection to a 1950s house still running on an older board.
