Electrician in Seacroft, Leeds

Seacroft, four miles east of the city centre, grew around a village green into a post-war estate of red brick semis, prefabricated houses and flats.

Electrical work in Seacroft

Leeds City Council bought 1,000 acres at Seacroft for housing in 1934, around four miles east of the city centre in what is now LS14. Building began in the 1950s with traditional red brick semis around Beechwood, and prefabricated houses and high-rise flats followed in the 1960s, with North Parkway and South Parkway as the two main roads through the estate. The village green predates all of it, with the Cricketers Arms on the north side and St James parish church, built in 1845, on the south. Seacroft Green Shopping Centre, with its Tesco, opened in 2000 in place of the earlier civic centre.

Those three building types need different approaches. The brick semis are the most straightforward to rewire, with cables chased into plaster and run under floorboards in the usual way. Prefabricated houses can take more planning, and flats bring shared landings and risers that sit outside the owner’s own installation. Whatever the house, the first question is what is already there, which an EICR answers. From there, a full house rewire or a consumer unit upgrade is priced against the house itself rather than a standard rate.

If you are a Leeds City Council tenant, wiring repairs are the council’s to carry out, so contact its repairs service rather than booking an electrician yourself.

Questions from Seacroft

What people in Seacroft ask us most. Not covered here? Ring and ask.

Do you cover Seacroft village green and the streets around the shopping centre?

Yes. We cover the whole of Seacroft in LS14, from the green with St James parish church and the Cricketers Arms to the houses off North Parkway and South Parkway and around Seacroft Green Shopping Centre. Get in touch with your address.

Is rewiring a prefabricated Seacroft house different from a brick semi?

It can be. System-built houses often have different wall and floor construction, which changes how cables are routed and how much making good is needed afterwards. We study photographs and details of the house before estimating, so the estimate reflects how it was actually built.
