Electrical work in Gipton
Gipton is an east Leeds estate begun in April 1934 as a garden suburb for working families, with 2,750 houses planned for around 13,000 people. Its two main roads were laid out unusually wide, with grass verges either side, and the Grade I listed Church of the Epiphany was built between 1936 and 1938 at the corner of Amberton Road and Beech Lane to serve the new estate. In the 2000s some streets, around Amberton Road in the north and Brander Road in the south, were cleared and rebuilt as a mix of private and public housing.
That leaves Gipton with two quite different kinds of house to wire. The 1930s houses have had nearly a century of alterations, so a newer kitchen circuit can easily sit alongside cable from decades earlier. A full house rewire replaces the lot in one go, while a consumer unit upgrade brings RCD protection to circuits that are still in good order. The newer homes need far less, but a periodic EICR is still recommended at least every ten years for an owner-occupied house, or when it changes hands.
If you rent from Leeds City Council, faults with the fixed wiring are the council’s to repair, so report them to its repairs service first. We work for owners and private landlords.

Questions from Gipton
What people in Gipton ask us most. Not covered here? Ring and ask.
Do you cover the streets around the Church of the Epiphany?
Yes. We cover the whole Gipton estate, from Amberton Road and Beech Lane, where the Grade I listed Church of the Epiphany stands, across to Gipton Approach and the Old Fire Station. Tell us your postcode when you get in touch.
Is the wiring in a 1930s Gipton house likely to be original?
Unlikely, but partial rewires are common in houses of that age, with newer circuits joined onto older ones. An EICR shows which parts are sound before you spend money on decorating or a new kitchen.
