Who fits security lighting in Leeds?Martin Day Electricians: PIR or dusk-to-dawn, one visit

You get the right lights in the right places: a driveway, doorway or side passage that lights up when it matters, wired to a dedicated weatherproof outdoor circuit that lasts.

The short answer

Most homes need PIR lights that trigger on movement at the door or driveway, or dusk-to-dawn lights that stay on all night, sometimes both. We fit either in a single visit, wired to a dedicated outdoor circuit, with a written estimate before work starts. NICEIC Approved Contractor, 30+ years trading in Leeds.

How do I know I need this?

Your driveway, side passage or back gate goes dark the moment the sun sets, the exact spot where most break-ins start. Right now you are relying on hope, not deterrence, to keep an intruder away.

You notice

  • The driveway goes pitch dark the moment the sun sets
  • A side passage or back gate you cannot see at night
  • Fumbling for keys at an unlit front door
  • An old floodlight that triggers on every passing cat

It's costing you

  • Relying on hope, not deterrence, after dark
  • Dark corners that make the house an easier target
  • Trips and stumbles on unlit steps and paths

And if you leave it

  • A break-in starting exactly where the light does not reach
  • Spliced outdoor wiring failing in the first wet winter
  • Falling short of what an insurer or future buyer expects

How the job is done

The same sequence on every job, so you know what happens and when.

  1. We walk the property with you

We work out where light actually needs to fall: the front door, the driveway, a side gate or a dark corner where a fence backs onto an alley.

  2. We pick PIR, dusk-to-dawn or both

PIR lights that trigger on movement at doors and driveways, dusk-to-dawn lights that keep a garden, gate or bin store lit all night.

  3. We wire a dedicated outdoor circuit

Weatherproof and run correctly from your existing electrics, not spliced into whatever cable happens to be nearby.

  4. We set the sensors and tidy up

PIR sensitivity and range set to trigger on someone approaching the house, not next door's cat. Most homes are finished in a single visit.

What we fit

Two types of security lighting cover almost every home, and we fit both:

  • PIR sensor lights - passive infrared lights that trigger the moment someone steps into range, flooding a doorway or driveway with light.
  • Dusk-to-dawn lights - switch on automatically as light levels drop and off again at daybreak, keeping a garden, gate or bin store lit every night without you touching a switch.

Both run from your existing electrics, wired to a dedicated, weatherproof outdoor circuit rather than spliced into whatever cable happens to be nearby. That’s the difference between a light that lasts and one that fails in the first wet winter.

Where should the lights go?

Before we fit anything, we walk the property with you and work out where light actually needs to fall:

  • The front door
  • The driveway
  • A side gate or passage
  • A dark corner where a fence backs onto an alley

PIR sensitivity and range are set so the light triggers on someone approaching the house, not on next door’s cat or the road outside. Most domestic installations are finished in a single visit.

What does security lighting cost?

We give you a written estimate after studying the photographs and information you send us. An estimate is our best assessment of the job. It is not a fixed price. If we find something that couldn’t be seen at the start, such as a hidden fault, we will tell you what we have found and what it means for the price before carrying on. Our Leeds electrician cost guide explains what drives the price across every service we offer, including exterior and security work.

Can it be combined with other outdoor work?

Yes. If your garden or driveway already needs other electrical work, it usually makes sense to do it at the same time. Jobs we regularly combine with security lighting:

One exterior job, one visit, one invoice.

Areas we cover

We fit security lighting regularly for homes in Roundhay, Adel and Meanwood, areas with larger gardens, longer driveways and more exterior ground to light. We cover Leeds and the surrounding areas as standard, not just the established suburbs.
