Anyone can put “trusted local electrician” on the side of a van. It doesn’t tell you whether the wiring behind your walls will be done to standard, what the written estimate you’re given does and doesn’t cover or who stands behind the work if something goes wrong. Below is what we can show you, not just tell you: more than 30 years trading in Leeds, the accreditations that matter for this work and £5,000,000 of public liability cover on every job.

30+ years trading in Leeds

We’ve been trading in Leeds for more than 30 years, working on around 400 jobs a year across the city and the surrounding area. That’s rewires in Victorian terraces in Chapel Allerton as often as fuse board upgrades in newer homes in Horsforth, and everything in between. Trading in one city for that long means we’ve already seen the wiring quirks specific to Leeds housing stock, and it means there’s a real business behind the name if you ever need to come back to us.

NICEIC, Part P, JIB Approved and City & Guilds

NICEIC, Part P, JIB Approved and City & Guilds. Names printed on a lot of flyers, not always earned. NICEIC registration means our work has been independently assessed against the UK wiring standard, not just self-declared, and it’s checked again on an ongoing basis, not once and forgotten. Part P is the part of the Building Regulations in England that covers notifiable domestic electrical work. Our NICEIC membership, a competent person scheme, is what lets us self-certify that work and notify it without you having to go through the council separately. JIB Approved is the Joint Industry Board’s grade for electricians who hold the qualifications and experience the industry requires. The Register of Electricians (ECS Registered Electrician) is a public register of electricians who hold the current wiring regulations qualification and sign up to a code of professional practice. Martin is JIB Approved and on the Register of Electricians. City & Guilds is the trade qualification behind the work.

£5,000,000 of public liability cover on every job

Electrical work carries real risk, to your property and to anyone in it. We carry £5,000,000 of public liability insurance on every job we do, domestic or commercial. If you’re comparing estimates, ask any electrician what cover they carry and for how much. It’s a fair question, and the answer should come back straight away, not vaguely.

Written estimates, agreed before we start

Planned jobs start with a written estimate before any work begins. An estimate is our best assessment of the job. It is not a fixed price. If we find something that couldn’t be seen at the start, such as a hidden fault, we will tell you what we have found and what it means for the price before carrying on. You decide whether to go ahead. See our Leeds electrician cost guide for how we price every job.

Attending a fault

We charge for the first hour to attend a fault. That hour includes up to an hour to resolve the fault. We explain what we find and what any further work will cost before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

How do you know if an electrician is good?

Check four things: current registration with a competent person scheme such as NICEIC, adequate public liability insurance, reviews you can verify independently and a written estimate before work starts. We meet all four: NICEIC Approved Contractor, Part P registered, City & Guilds qualified, £5,000,000 public liability cover and 4.9 stars from 215 reviews on FreeIndex, ranked 3rd of 848 UK electricians, plus 4.9 on Google. See the full figures on our reviews page.

Is there a list of registered electricians?

Yes. NICEIC and the other competent person schemes each run a searchable register of every electrician they’ve assessed and approved, and the government’s Competent Person Register brings all of them together in one place. Our own NICEIC registration is checkable there, alongside our City & Guilds and Part P credentials.

Is Level 2 a fully qualified electrician?

No, not on its own. A Level 2 electrical qualification covers the basics and is usually a stepping stone toward a full apprenticeship, not a standalone qualification to work unsupervised. Level 3, gained through a recognised apprenticeship and an on-site assessment, is what the trade generally means by “fully qualified”. Our work is covered by NICEIC and Part P registration, and Martin holds City & Guilds qualifications and is JIB Approved on top of that.

What does NICEIC mean?

NICEIC stands for the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting. It’s one of the UK’s leading bodies for assessing and registering electrical contractors, checking work against the national wiring standard through an initial assessment and then ongoing checks, not a one-off sign-up. We’ve held NICEIC accreditation throughout more than 30 years trading in Leeds.

What’s the difference between Part P and NICEIC registration?

Part P is the part of the Building Regulations in England covering notifiable domestic electrical work. It is a rule, not a scheme. NICEIC runs a competent person scheme, and membership of a scheme like it is what lets an electrician self-certify that work. We are NICEIC registered and Part P registered. Our guide to NICEIC and Part P qualifications covers the full picture.
