What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file your browser stores on your device when you visit a website. Cookies let the site remember things between page loads (like your choice in the cookie banner) and, in some cases, let third parties measure how the site is used.
This site uses very few cookies. The only optional ones are Google Analytics cookies, and they load only if you accept them.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the site to work. Under regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary storage does not need your consent. They do not identify you personally.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm |
Cloudflare bot management - blocks abusive traffic before it reaches our server | 30 minutes | Cloudflare |
martin-day-electrician-cookie-consent (localStorage, not a cookie) |
Remembers your choice in the cookie banner so we don’t ask again | 12 months | This site |
Analytics cookies
These cookies only load if you click Accept all or switch on Analytics in the cookie banner. They help us understand which pages are useful so we can improve them. We do not use Google’s advertising features.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Distinguishes unique users for Google Analytics 4 | 2 years | Google Analytics |
_ga_* (one per GA4 property) |

Marketing cookies
This site does not set marketing or advertising cookies. The marketing toggle in the cookie banner is reserved for future use. If we ever add a marketing tag (for example a Meta Pixel for a paid campaign) we will:
- Update this policy to list the specific cookies it sets
- Bump the policy version in our site configuration
- Ask every returning visitor for fresh consent before any new tag loads
How to change your choice
You can change your choice at any time with the “Manage cookies” link in the footer of every page. It reopens the cookie banner so you can switch Analytics on or off, then save.
You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings. Each browser is slightly different: search “cookies” in your browser’s preferences, or see allaboutcookies.org for plain-English instructions for every major browser.
How we measure the site
Google Analytics 4 loads only after you give consent, and we run it without advertising features. We may also use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not identify you, so it does not need your consent. We do not use heatmaps, session recording or third-party retargeting pixels.
