Electrical work in Belle Isle
Belle Isle takes its name from the French island of Belle Île, held by British forces during the Seven Years’ War, and the name was first recorded here in the 1760s. Today it is a large estate three miles south of Leeds city centre in LS10, with the M621 along its northern and eastern edges and the old woodland of Middleton Wood beside it. The council built it on farmland in the 1930s to rehouse families from cleared slum streets, and Belle Isle Road runs north to south through it to Belle Isle Circus, once a tram terminus. Most homes are red-brick semis. The majority are still council-owned and managed by BITMO, the tenant-run management organisation, while others have passed into private ownership.
For owners, the age of the house is the starting point. A semi built in the 1930s has most likely been rewired at some point, but when, and to what standard, varies from one house to the next. An EICR shows what you have. If the cables are past it, a full rewire is best done before redecorating, and a consumer unit upgrade adds RCD protection where the board lacks it.
