What we’re asked for most in Chapeltown
The jobs that come up again and again in Chapeltown, each with a written estimate before work starts.
- Landlord electrical safetyA villa divided into several flats means several lets, and each one needs its own current EICR, renewed at least every five years.
- Smoke alarm and fire safetyFlats carved out of one big house share a hall and stairs, so alarms need planning across the whole building rather than flat by flat.
- Full house rewiresThe 1890s infill terraces and Scott Hall's 1930s council houses are old enough that any wiring never replaced is well past its working life.
- Carbon monoxide detectorsAny let flat with a gas boiler or fire needs a carbon monoxide alarm in that room under the 2022 rules for rented homes.

Electrical work in Chapeltown
Including Potternewton and Scott Hall, LS7.
Chapeltown, about a mile north of Leeds city centre, is strung along Chapeltown Road, its main thoroughfare for around two miles. It grew in the 19th century as a wealthy suburb of large terraces and villas, but by the 1890s its popularity had faded and the remaining plots were filled with smaller, cheaper terraced houses. Many of the original Victorian homes have since been divided into flats. Potternewton Park, in the north-east, hosts the Leeds West Indian Carnival, the oldest West Indian carnival in Europe. Potternewton itself became the site of the city’s largest private housing estate before the Second World War, and Scott Hall, to the west, is largely 1930s council housing on both sides of Scott Hall Road.
A villa converted into flats brings a particular set of jobs. Each let flat needs a landlord EICR, and the shared hall and stairs need smoke alarms that work together across the building, so a fire on one floor is heard on the others. The 1890s infill terraces and the 1930s council houses are old enough that any original wiring is long past its best, and a full rewire is the lasting fix where it has never been replaced.
